Elkhorn Area High School
In November of 2016, the City of Elkhorn passed a $22,900,000 referendum that would improved various programs and facilities in the school district. This large sum of money put the project at number 42 on Milwaukee Business Journal’s list of Construction Projects Underway. Balestrieri was contracted to work on three major pieces of this proposal.
The first project we completed was on the historic 1887 Building. Once used as the sole schoolhouse in the district, this building is now one of the oldest structures in the City of Elkhorn and is currently seeing as the Elkhorn Area Schools Administrative Service Center. Before the renovation of an unfinished room could take place, the lead paint needed to be professionally removed.
We were also contracted to abate the asbestos found in the flooring and doorframes of the business and science wings at the high school. In order to modernize the building, the tiling needed to be updated and the caulk needed to be redone.
Also through the referendum, the city voted to revamp the EAHS auditorium. In 2018, Balestrieri will abate the asbestos from the floors of the facility so that generations of students will have a safe environment to perform in.
The time allotted for this project proved to be the most difficult aspect of the job. BE&D had to complete all work before school began in the fall. Extra tasks were tacked on and ere expected to be finished within the original timeframe.
Our experts worked diligently and efferently in order to meet the deadline. Balestrieri’s extensive past in the service and maintenance of school facilities allowed us to design a realistic schedule that was followed closely. The project including the additional work was finished on time and within budget.
