Brookfield Square Mall- Sears
Brookfield Square was built in 1967 as a three-anchor, one-story shopping mall with 60 store. The mall went under renovation in 2004, creating new outparcel stores and restaurants, the interior had a whole new style and exterior when remodeled.
Later in 2013, an expansion was proposed for nine more storefronts including Old Navy, Hallmark Cards, Shoes Carnival and the Sears wing. The sears anchor was closed temporarily in September 2014 because of structural concerns over its roof and closed permanently in mid-March 2018 as a part of a plan to close 103 stores nationwide.
Balestrieri stepped in in 2018 when the store was closing to abate the sears building as well as remove all universal waste prior to the demolition that followed, both in the Sears Auto Center and the Sears Building on the south end of the mall. Due to an inadequate inspection prior to Balestrieri, we were called in to reinspect, to reduce environmental reliability for a safe demolition an rebuild on the south end of Brookfield Square Mall.
The abatement work was over a million square feet, it took a very large crew to get the job done, but we are known to get in and out on the given timeline, and that is what we did. Brookfield Square is now redeveloping on to their mall with attractions such as Whirly Ball, Movie Tavern by Marcus, Outback Steakhouse, Merle Norman Cosmetics, and much more. Across the street as well, where the Sears Auto Center was is now redeveloping into more store and restaurants to come, below is a link to the website where they update the community on not only what is being done, but pictures to show progress as well, feel free to click the link below to stay updated!
